SELF PLACEMENT
It is possible for students to student teach where they are already an assistant teacher or student teach at a school that is not part of the 5 boroughs. Students who are interested in securing their own placement must make sure the following requirements are doable:
1) Students must student teach with a teacher who is certified in DHH education.
2) Students must student teach for the full spring term for which you are registered for student teaching in two different age levels (birth-2nd, 1st-6th, 5th-9th and 7th-12th).
3) Students must be able to conduct assessments (SAIL project/edTPA) and be videotaped teaching in their student teaching classroom. Additionally, if students are student teaching at schools that are not accessible via public transportation, students will be required to videotape their teaching at least 4 times in addition to videotaping required by the edTPA.
4) The cooperating teacher must complete a student teaching evaluation rubric at the end of the semester.
5) The above must be approved by the school (not just the cooperating teacher but the school principal/supervisor) where the student teacher will teach and then approved by Hunter.
6) For the approval process from Hunter, students must provide the following information to the DHH program coordinator:
